(en) The province of Thracia was created by Emperor Claudius in 46 AD, after the annexation of the last Thracian kingdoms. Following the administrative reforms of Diocletian towards the end of the 3rd century, the province was subdivided into four small provinces (Thrace, Haemimontus, Rhodopes and Europa) remaining grouped within the diocese of Thrace (Thraciae), itself attached in the Orient prefecture.
